A Week With My Tesla Model 3


It’s been a little over a week since I took delivery of my deep blue metallic Tesla Model 3 and all I can say about this vehicle is WOW!!!

“Sapphire” was reserved on March 31, 2016 and I was trying to hold off on getting the car until a Model 3 could be ordered as a standard range model.  Telsa hit the 200,000th U.S. vehicle delivery marking the end of the $7500 Federal tax credit so I decided to “pull the trigger” and go ahead and order the long range model since the long range option would only net out $1500 more than waiting for the standard range battery.

I’m really glad I ordered the car and I also ended up saving another $700 since the price for the blue paint increased by $500 after I ordered the car and the delivery and documentation fee went up by $200.  So the long range model actually ended up only costing me $800 more than waiting for a standard range.

This car is every thing I had expected and hoped for and is so much more.  It has power, handles better than any car I have ever owned (including a BMW 2002 Tii) and is inexpensive to operate and will have extremely low maintenance costs.  No more oil changes or transmission fluid, no more tune ups and a very low energy cost.

I had my first experience supercharging on Saturday since I was near Springfield Mall and was down to 60 miles of range.  I charged the car up to it’s maximum capacity of 310 miles in about an hour (while eating dinner).  It took 63KWh of electricity to charge the car fully and I was billed $8.19 for 250 miles of power – about 1/3 to 1/4 the cost of gas for my Nissan Altima.

The technology is fantastic, the handling is excellent and it’s a lot of fun to drive.
