Nationals Season Ends in Style
First No-Hitter in Nationals History

I honestly don’t think that anyone could have written the script for the Nationals this year.  No one could have predicted that the Nationals would end the regular season with a record of 96-66 to nab the best record in the National League.  They also ended up with the same record as the Baltimore Orioles who also finished 96-66 for the regular season.  The Nationals have claimed home field advantage during the National League post-season.  For the Atlanta Braves and NY Mets to finish 17 games behind the Nationals, the Miami Marlins to finish 19 games back and the Philadelphia Phillies to finish 23 games back could not have been scripted either.

But let’s be realistic – for Jordan Zimmerman to throw a complete game, no-hit shutdown and win 1-0 could never have been predicted.

Way to go Jordan and way to go Nationals.  Now let’s do it in the post-season.

“Who’d Have Thunk It?” – Orioles and Nationals Clinch Eastern Division Titles on the Same Night

“Who’d Have Thunk It” was what immediately came to mind.  I had just seen the end of the Nationals – Braves game and the Washington Nationals had beaten the Braves 3-0 to clinch their second National League East title in three years.  Then I flipped over to MASN-2 and saw the end of the Baltimore Orioles game where the Orioles hammered the Toronto Blue Jays 8-2 to clinch the American League East title.

Not a bad night for baseball in the Baltimore-Washington area.

Bad, Bad, Bad

Okay, it’s been way too long since I added a blog entry here.  I guess I was not happy with the Nationals getting knocked out in the first round of the baseball playoffs.  I was also not happy with the Redskins losing the first playoff game of the NFL playoffs and RG III going down in that game.

However, right now the sports situation in DC isn’t all bad.  The Nationals are not playing as well as we would have hoped but they are only two games behind the Braves, the Braves have played two less games than the Nats and they are going into a series against the Reds in Cincinnatti.  Of course, the Nats have to play Detroit for two games.

The Capitals have been on fire since February after a dismal start, won the Southeast Division and are up 2-0 in the series against the Rangers.  Hopefully they can steal at least one in New York.

The Kastles announced their 2013 schedule including the addition of Martina Hingis to the Kastles roster.  I have never been a fan of this Martina – only the other Martina (Navratilova).  I have always rooted for whoever was playing against Martina Hingis.  But WTT is a team sport so I will now be forced to cheer for Martina Hingis and hope she wins. The season starts July 8, 2013 at Kastles Stadium at the Wharf.

Originally Venus Williams was only supposed to play for the Kastles in DC on July 9, 2013 and in Dallas against the Texas Wild on July 10, 2013.  But Venus decided that since the streak was on the line that she would fly directly from Wimbledon to DC to play on July 8 to try to help the team get the first two matches of the season to set a new streak of 34-0, one more than the LA Lakers streak of 33 wins in a row.

And the Nationals Follow in the Kastles Footsteps

Well, Washington finally has a baseball team that is in the playoffs.  The Nationals clinched at least a wild card berth in the 2012 MLB Playoffs by beating the Dodgers 4-1 tonight.

The last time a Washington baseball team was in the MLB playoffs was in the 1933 when the Washington Senators lost the World Series after finishing the season with a record of 99-53.

Here’s hoping the Nationals go far in the playoffs and dare I say maybe win the World Series.  It would be nice to see two World Championship professional sports teams in Washington at the same time.

Washington Nationals vs. Colorado Rockies

My brother and I went to the Saturday late afternoon baseball game on July 7, 2012.  Gio Gonzales was pitching and the Nationals beat the Rockies 4-1 thanks to a 3 run 6th inning.

It’s nice to have a Washington sports team other than the Washington Kastles in first place.  Let’s hope the season ends that way.

Hooray for the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team!!!

I was so glad to see the Cardinals snatch victory from the jaws of defeat in Game 6 of the World Series and go on to beat the Rangers in Game 7.

I am partial to the Cardinals because my nephew lives in St. Louis and he is a Cardinals fan.  But it goes deeper than that – I also hate the Rangers for two reasons:  they were owned by the ex-President George Bush and they used to be the Senators and they also left the DC area.
